Viscofil® for viscose spinning
There is high demand for cellulose fibers in the textile industry, which cannot be met using cotton alone. A very large share is now taken up by viscose, which is obtained from chemically converted wood pulp. The material is pressed through spinnerets and coagulated in sulfuric acid. One good option for dying viscose is spin dyeing, whereby the dye is added to the viscose before the spinning process.
With its Viscofil® products, Clariant offers a broad selection of aqueous pigment preparations for dyeing viscose spinning masses. These can help to achieve excellent product quality with improved color yield in combination with economical processing.
The preparations available are unsurpassed in terms of brilliance and color shades. The pigments of the preparartions are resistant to the stresses that occur during the spinning process and are notable for their high dispersion stability within the viscose.

KURARAY POVAL™ for textile sizing
An old weavers’ saying goes: “Good sizing is half woven.”
In the weaving mill, the textile yarns pass through the weaving machines under tension and at high speeds. This results in friction and chafing with metal parts like the heddles, the reeds and the yarn monitors, as well as between the threads themselves. In order to prevent the risk of chafing and breaking of the yarns and thus the occurrence of unwanted downtimes, the yarn surfaces are coated with sizing.
For the sizing, it is important that the formula of the coating is tailored to the fiber composition of the yarn. Only this way it is possible to achieve good adhesion to the yarn and a smoothsurface without any loss of elasticity.
There is a long history of sizing cotton with starch. As the polyester content of the fiber blends used has increased, many weavers have come to appreciate the benefits of using polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) in sizing. PVOH is also used on cotton fibers with or even without starch in the sizing. The increased productivity and quality achieved this way justifies the higher costs of the PVOH.

FT waxes for the textile industry - Terwax C20 and Terwax C60
In knitting, too, the mechanical stresses on the yarns during processing are enormous, which makes it necessary to modify the frictional properties.
To improve the workability of the yarns, special Fischer-Tropsch wax grades have been developed, the Terwax C20 and Terwax C60. These can be easily emulsified and allow a lower rate of application than polyethylene waxes, thus reducing raw material consumption. Application is easy thanks to the exhaustion process.
The use of Terwax C20 and Terwax C60 can lead to improved knitability combined with decreased friction and tearing, and thus reduced downtimes.
In areas where the feel of the finished knit and drape are important, application of Terwax C20 and Terwax C60 can also be advantageous.
