Our diverse portfolio for the paints and coatings sector
Ready to use pigment preparations for coatings
HEUCOSIN™ pigment preparations from HEUBACH are ready to use immediately and provide an even color release. The uniform pigment distribution ensures effortless processing, simplifying and speeding up the production process. The preparations of HEUCOSIN™ are suitable for both solvent-based and water-based systems and guarantee excellent processing properties. With outstanding weather resistance, they impress with high color and durability stability, even under extreme weather conditions. The preparations ensure long-lasting color depth and brilliance, making them ideal for applications with high demands on quality and durability.
Phenolic resins for metal coatings
Phenolic resins such as DUREZ and METHYLON from Sumitomo Bakelite are widely used for protecting metal surfaces due to their excellent chemical and mechanical resistance. Applications include coatings for beverage caps, food and pet food containers, as well as drum, bucket, and can linings.
METHYLON 75108 is an allyl ether blend of mono-, di- and trimethyl phenol with excellent chemical resistance. DUREZ 37081 is an ethanol-soluble resol with high chemical resistance, ideal for multi-component metal bake coatings. DUREZ 33160 is a liquid formaldehyde resol with high strength, flexibility, good adhesion, and resistance, especially to acid-containing foods. DUREZ 37010 is a liquid etherified resin with high reactivity and low monomer content. DUREZ 34071 is a butyl ether resol in butanol offering good reactivity and flexibility. DUREZ 37130 is a version of DUREZ 34071 with a lower curing temperature.
PFAS alternatives: Innovations for the coating industry
PFAS (per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) are a group of chemical substances with special properties that are used in many industrial applications. However, the environmental and health risks are increasingly leading to the search for alternatives. TER Chemicals is actively supporting this change and offers a wide portfolio of additives for the paint and coatings industry that can be used to optimize the properties of the coating. Our additives contribute to increased abrasion resistance and improved chemical resistance. Our fine powders are also characterized by a low coefficient of sliding friction, which means they can be used in sliding and non-stick coatings. Our products based on PA12 and UHMW-PE are available both as fine powder and as an aqueous dispersion.
Do you need wax?
If you intend formulating paints, coatings or inks, you certainly need different waxes to achieve specific product properties. Finely ground or sprayed waxes can be used as matting agents in coatings to reduce gloss by decreasing the reflective properties of the surface. Wax powders also act as an anti-blocking agent. Due to their nature, they prevent other materials to stick while coming in contact during use or transportation. Hard waxes can protect inks and coatings by giving them an increased rub resistance. At the same time, they reduce the coefficient of friction, provide lubrication and improve slip properties.
TER Chemicals provides all these products and can help you to find the right grade for your application. We offer micronized Fischer-Tropsch waxes under our own brand Vestowax. A variety of PE and PP waxes, modified and unmodified, as well as hydrocarbon, amide and ester waxes under the brand of Cerdiust by Clariant and mju:wax by Ceronas. In case you are working with waterborne coatings and don’t want to process fine powders, we provide you our waterborne emulsions Albicera by Allinova.
Polymer dispersions for water-based coatings
The TER Chemicals portfolio includes water-based self-crosslinking and non-self-crosslinking polymer dispersions that can be used for coating, foaming, laminating and impregnating. They are based on various polymers such as polyacrylate, polyurethane, polyvinyl acetate and partly also bio-based polymers. Copolymers are also available, enabling a wide range of individual coating properties. There are styrene-acrylate, acrylate-vinyl acetate copolymers as well as polycarbonate-polyurethane and polyester-polyurethane systems.
By mixing compatible polymer dispersions and adding auxiliaries, e.g. crosslinkers, defoamers, pigment dispersions, UV stabilizers, flame retardants, foaming agents, ceramic particles, etc., the film properties can be further optimized and combined for their respective application.
